La Ville de Montpellier est partenaire de la Quinzaine du commerce équitable organisée par les associations Max Havelaar, Concordia et Solid'ere.

Permanent dialog with foreign communities

Montpellier maintains permanent relationships with foreign communities through consulates and representative associations.
The main topics of these actions are articulated around integration through the development of citizenship and international solidarity.
Memorial visit
A trip to Auschwitz with representatives of deportees, pupils of schools and jewish community members (June 1993).
A permanent dialogue with associations and consulates, with associations of European nationals, networking of "Maisons pour Tous" with European Union countries

Solidarity and humanitarian actions (financial support, logistics, communication…).

La Ville de Montpellier entretient des relations permanentes avec les communautés étrangères par l'intermédiaire des consulats et des associations représentatives.
Les thèmes principaux de ces actions s'articulent autour de l'intégration dans la ville par le développement de la citoyenneté et de la solidarité internationale.

Juin 1993 : voyage à Auschwitz avec des représentants des déportés, des élèves des collèges et de la Communauté juive.

Actions de solidarité et d'urgence humanitaire
Soutien de la Ville auprès des associations locales et des ONG en termes de communication, logistique (collecte, stockage) et soutien financier (subventions exceptionnelles).

Voting rights for European nationals

The E.U. tends to institute a statute of the European citizen and the law of 25th May, 1998 enables the European nationals to take part in the European and local elections after their registration on the electoral rolls.

• Maison de Montpellier à Heidelberg [Montpellier Center in Heidelberg]
  Inaugurated in 1986, la Maison de Montpellier in Heidelberg is a pillar of the twinning of the two cities. This structure is highly original (antenna of a town in its sister city).

It was for a long time unique in the history of Franco-German twin towns.
It has the following objectives :

- Promoting Montpellier and its region by presenting their products

- Organizing cultural events

- Making available to inhabitants of  Heidelberg practical information such as hotel bookings, lists of restaurants, enrolment in University

- Welcoming and assisting people from Montpellier (professors, students, business people and tourists).

Flyers, handouts and books about Montpellier are also available to the public.

• Les Amis de la Maison de l'Asie [Friends of the Asian Center]
  Inaugurated in February 1999, la Maison de l'Asie [Asian Center] is a multicultural meeting-place devoted to promoting Asian culture and developing relations between Europe and Asia.

• Maison des Tiers Mondes et de la Solidarité Internationale [Center of Third World and International Solidarity]

It is located in the Espace Martin Luther King – which is an extension of the Maison des relations internationales.
It was created in 1989, around nineteen associations with a joint Charter.
It now counts over fourty associations. Its goals are to facilitate meetings amongst the member associations and to inform and carry out together acts of solidarity towards Third World countries.
It is an original structure in the domain of international solidarity.
The member associations benefit from joint structures such as : premises, documents, meeting rooms...
Each year the Third World Fortnight and the International Solidarity Spring attract a large number of people from Montpellier around the theme of solidarity-without-frontiers.
